Meet Ivar & The Ropers

We knew that Ivar had been sent to us exactly the way God intended. We didn’t see that extra chromosome as anything but a unique characteristic. It made him who he was, and so decided to let Ivar write his own story. We worked hard to learn about Ivar’s conditions and understand how we could best advocate for him. We researched, met with experts, asked important questions, made hard decisions, prayed, prayed, and prayed some more. Every decision made for Ivar, was out of love, faith and hope. We asked God to let us know what he, and Ivar would want.
We didn’t want to dwell on the fact that our time may be short with our sweet boy. We wanted to celebrate the time that we did have and take advantage of every single moment. Ivar’s life was filled to the brim of “I love you’s”, dancing, good music, reading, and cuddles from mom, dad, and his furry brother Rollo. Every single moment he was in my belly was truly cherished. We went to all our favorite places, did all our favoritethings, and made memories with him that would last a lifetime.
On October 31st 2019, a perfect little Canadian boy came into this world at 2:20pm in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At 32 weeks and 6 days he weighed 2lbs 13.5 ounces and 15.5 inches long. He had the fullest head of curly black hair, big feet like his dad, and the longest limbs, our little string bean. Though he was skinny, he had the juiciest cheeks that were made for snuggling, and the most kissable lips. Our sweet warrior fought for us and gave us an entire golden hour. He let out a little cry, cuddled me, held my finger, worked hard to keep his eyes open and then passed peacefully snuggled up on his Dad’s chest.
Ivar’s earthly journey may have ended but his heavenly story has just begun. He will bless us and help us grow in ways we don’t understand yet. I know that he has already changed us for the better. We continue to celebrate the way he shows up in our lives and just as his name implies…serve as our protector and guardian angel to his sisters, and our leading light.
